Perceived Competence, Positive Affect, and Anxiety in Students’ Academic Motivation: A Hierarchical Regression

This study examines the associations between students’ perceived competence, positive affect, anxiety, and academic motivation. Data from 458 students were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression. Anxiety was negatively related to motivation when examined alone, whereas perceived competence and positive affect showed strong positive associations with motivation. Anxiety showed a small positive correlation when associated with perceived competence and positive affect. Interaction effects were not significant.
